GYC Burgee & Flag Etiquette
The design of the GYC burgee was developed from the RNYC burgee, maintaining the red cross of St George, the McIntyre Adventure proprietary “Globe” insignia in the top FLY and a sextant graphic in the bottom FLY. The central square of the St George cross has three horizontal-coloured bands.
Pennants
GOLD, representing the Golden Globe Race, BLUE representing the Ocean Globe Race and ORANGE representing the Mini Globe Race. For each of these three GLOBAL circumnavigating events, a unique racing Pennant has been developed. It starts with the same GYC design but for each event the centre square is a solid colour representing that event instead of the three colour bands representing all events.
If a GYC member is an entrant in two events, like Tapio Lehtinen who sailed in the GGR and OGR, he is entitled to fly a special racing pennant with a two-colour central square, half gold and half blue. Or in the case of Ertan Beskardes, who has entered the GGR and MGR, he may fly a gold and orange central square.
There are four special GYC flags which may be flown exclusively by Officers and Flag Officers.
